Principal's message

Lincoln University has established a proud partnership with Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) through the Joint Institute of Higher Learning. As a specialist university focused on the land-based sector, we value the opportunity to collaborate with HZAU. Our shared expertise covers key areas such as agriculture, horticulture, environmental management, pest and conservation, soil and physical sciences, viticulture and oenology.

The challenges we face – including food security and sustaining rural economies -demand fresh thinking and shared action. With HZAU, we align curriculum and research training with industry needs, ensuring our students learn by doing and turning ideas into impact.

Our governance model is collaborative and accountable, guaranteeing high academic standards and a student experience that is supportive and globally connected. By integrating applied projects and research partnerships, the JIHL links classrooms and laboratories directly with the needs of farmers, enterprises, and communities. We welcome students with a strong sense of curiosity, integrity, and a commitment to guardianship of our natural world. Or as we say in New Zealand, kaitiakitaka.

Welcome to a global partnership

This partnership opens doors across borders and disciplines. We hope your studies and friendships here will help create resilient food systems and healthy environments in China, New Zealand, and beyond, preparing you to lead with skill, humility and purpose.
